As the title to our blog indicates our adventure starts in Kenya. Sahra and I arrive in Kenya on 1 February 2010 and will spend three weeks in Nakuru- the provincial capital of the Rift Valley province and the fourth largest city in Kenya. While in Nakuru we will be volunteering with Mission in Action (MIA). MIA is dedicated to looking after children at the Nakuru Baby Orphanage and endeavours to raise the children in a loving, safe, family environment offering education and opportunities to become productive members of their community. Anybody can volunteer with MIA for a maximum period of 4 weeks.
On 21 February 2010 we depart MIA and join a tour of Southern Africa which includes visiting Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Our time in Southern Africa concludes with 1 week in Capetown-South Africa.
On 16 April 2010 we depart Southern Africa for Europe where we spend time in Paris-France before walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) in Santiago de Compostela in north-west Spain. The most popular route is the Camino Francés which stretches 780 km. (nearly 500 miles) from St. Jean-Pied-du-Port near Biarritz in France to Santiago.
Finally on 16 June 2010 we travel to South America where we will visit Brazil followed by Ecuador, Peru (including Cusco), Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. The exact details of our trip in South America are yet to be determined. We are due back in Australia on 16 August 2010.
What a wonderful year you two have planned! When you are in South Africa, contact the CSJ of SA - or just mail me - if you need any help planning your camino. There are pilgrim workshops planned in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban and two hospitaleros volunatarios course in Durban during February and March. Fancy volunteering in a pilgrim shelter at the end of your camino walk?

What awesome photos. We were all impressed (especially Liam). The hyenas was his favourite. We look forward to lots more updates. It sounds like you are very busy. I could have told you that kids can be gross and it is not always easy.
ReplyDeleteLove to you both.
